Prior to hoisting sails of sailing onto the sea through the lock you will have to inform yourself properly about the weather forecast. When the forecast is for force 6 or higher you are not allowed to go out and sail with the Waddeninzicht ships. However also at wind-force 4 or 5 you better stay away from the bog sea-arms and avoid that you will arrive in a situation whereby current and tide are against each other, causing high and choppy seas..

All the ships of Waddeninzicht have therefore a vhf and radio , ensuring that you will always be aware of the situation and the latest weather-reports an gale forecasts.
