Drascombe Longboat Cruiser:

The Drascombe is a very handy boat with a small cabin.
Because of its very low draught an ideal little boat for the shallows.

Wit centre-plate down 1,27 meter and up 0,30 meter. A ship which takes any shallow: when everybody is still waiting for the water to rise or has stopped for the falling water, the Drascombe sails in unhindered. When you touch ground you step over board and you push your Drascombe to a patch of deeper water.

The well-known Dutch columnist H. Vandersmissen has written already many a story about his adventures with special little boat.. (a.o. The Shallow Sea Drascombe,)

The main characteristics of the Drascombe are besides its low draught, the second mast with a mizzen as sail and a "papegaaienstok" as boom. Furthermore you can row or scull with a Drascombe. In shallow waters the rudder has to be taken out and one of the oars is subsequently possitioned on the transom , serving as a rudder. Just like in Venice .

The Drascombes of Waddeninzicht have two bunks. The 3 Drascombes which have to that effect a hammock on starboard, also have a porta-potti. Furthermore a cooking-chest with burner, kichen stuff, crockery and cutlery is part of the standard out-fit. The Drascombes have been fitted out with many watertight store barrels with screw-lids., ensuring that clothes and other small stuff can be stored away dry.

Although you can come a long way on the oars the ships have been fitted out as well with a 4 horse-power engine with light-spool enabling re-charging of the lights-battery.
